Paintings by Vladimir Barac

Vladimir Barac was born in the Northern Bosnian city of Banja Luka, middle child in a family of 3 children, with parents who encouraged him to pursue his love of drawing and painting.

As a teenager his work was published on a regular basis in local newspapers and art journals, which led to his acceptance into the "Dom Kulture" where he did a course in 1966. He first exhibited in 1967 after being selected as the premier student of that year. Vladimir specialised in Oil Colours and Inks.

Upon arriving in Australia he never stopped drawing or painting however his focus changed from being an artist to providing for his young family in a foreign land.

Vladimir has been involved with community based art collectives including the Croatian Australian Arts Society. Having recently retired from working to support his family he is now actively painting and exploring the boundaries of his own personal style again.

This is the second solo Art Exhibition held at Sydney Antique Centre Exhibition Gallery for Rhonda Margiotta and for this exhibition she is joined by Sydney potter and friend Pauline Ryan.

The exhibition has been titled ‘An Eclectic Collection’ due to the diverse nature of the works both art and ceramic. Rhonda’s love of textures and different media is reflected in many of her pieces while her love of portraiture features in many works. Pauline’s collection of ceramics for this exhibition will include pit fired, wood fired and raku fired pieces.

Roy Wiggan

ROY WIGGAN - the last generation of Bardi Ilma.

Roy Wiggan, senior Bardi member from One-Arm Point in Western Australia, is the guardian of many traditional stories and songs of his people. He is the only member of his community entitled to make new Ilma, rare, hand-held ceremonial objects which allow Bardi people to learn and access their stories, rules and songs.

This exhibition showcases never before seen Bardi totems. Bardi recognizes a doorway between the physical and spiritual worlds. Made with cotton wool, acrylic paint and plywood, the unique appearance demonstrates a strong visual language developed by the Bardi people, showing their exceptional relationship with the coastal country.
